In 990A.D. four friends, a knight, a scholar, a lady, and a dame decided that it was well past time for there to be a refuge and school for wizards and witches.
Before the start[]
Lady Rowena Ravenclaw found a piece of land in Scotland where the school could be placed, and designed a castle to be there. It was five years before the castle was built. Both Lady Rowena Ravenclaw and Lord Salazar Slytherin enchanted the castle to be unplottable, and impossible for muggles to find, as well as several other defensive charms.
Sir Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin, the two men, believed that the students should be separated into different houses which should compete against each other. Dame Helga Hufflepuff, the most motherly of the four founders, disliked the idea of separating the students, but agreed to keep the peace. She designed the four different House crests.
It was decided that the school would be named Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
